HAGI NO LONGER ON CELTIC SHORTLIST

Ex-Barcelona attacking midfielder Gheorghe Hagidoes not feature again on the managerial shortlist at dethroned Scottish Premiership champions Celtic. Celtic are looking for a new permanent manager after Neil Lennon walked out of the club earlier this year.

Gheorghe Hagi was linked with the Celtic job while Lennon was still the manager as per the report from playsport.ro in his native Romania earlier this year. It was revealed that Celtic want Gheorghe Hagi to replace former player Lennon should the club decide to replace him as the manager. In the end, Lennon resigned from his position as manager.

Latest reports from various British media portals claimed that Eddie Howe is the overwhelming favourites to be the next Celtic manager as Hagi didn’t feature again on the managerial shortlist.

GHEORGHE HAGI: INTERNATIONAL CAREER EXPOSED

Gheorghe Hagi is a football icon in Romania and the former Barcelona player is widely regarded as the greatest footballer in his country till date. Gheorghe Hagi is one of few players to play for both Barcelona and Real Madrid during the course of their football career. His international debut came against hosts Norway in Oslo in 1983 at the age of just 18.

The attacking midfielder went on to score 35 goals in 124 games for Romania. The first of those 35 Romania goals for Gheorghe Hagi came against the Northern Ireland in 1984. He would later go on to captain his country for the first time during the game against the same opposition one year later. Gheorghe Hagi and Romania failed to qualify for the 1986 FIFA World Cup tournament in Mexico but that was rectified at the 1990 edition in Italy. Romania were eliminated in Italy at the round of 16 stage by the Republic of Ireland on penalties after the two teams had battled to a goalless draw.

GHEORGE HAGI: 1994 WORLD CUP

Romanian football legend Gheorghe Hagi was one of the stars of the 1994 FIFA World Cup tournament in the United States of America. Gheorghe Hagi was instrumental as Romania reached the quarterfinals at the tournament before they were eliminated by Sweden on penalties. Sweden would go on to secure third place at the end of the tournament. Gheorghe Hagi is an icon as far as Romanian football is concerned and he scored three goals at the FIFA World Cup tournament in 1994. Only nine players scored more than Gheorghe Hagi at the tournament. Romania have not been able to replicate the quarterfinal heights reached by Gheorghe Hagi and his teammates in the United States of America.


Gheorghe Hagi and Romania were drawn in Group A alongside hosts United States, fellow European Switzerland and South American nation Colombia. At the end of proceedings in Group A, Romania emerged as the best team in the group ahead of Switzerland, the United States and bottom team Colombia. Romania began their group campaign with the 3-1 win over Colombia and Hagi was one of the goalscorers. Hagi made it two goals in two games when he scored the only Romania goal in the 4-1 defeat to Switzerland. In the final group game, Romania beat hosts United States 1-0 and that result ensured that they finished as Group A winners. (more…)

CELTIC TARGETING GHEORGHE HAGI AS LENNON REPLACEMENT

According to several reports in Romania, Scottish giants Celtic Football Club are already making moves in the hunt for head coach Neil Lennon’s replacement and have identified Gheorghe Hagi as a potential target for their mission.

Former Real Madrid Galatasaray and Barcelona player Hagi has been touted as the man to replace the current joss after the club has slipped up in the title race this season following a run of poor performances. According to the report, Hagi is currently in Scotland, and in fact, watched the Celtic vs Rangers game last Saturday but was there to watch his son IanisHagi who helped Rangers defeat Celtic at Ibrox. HAGI CLAIMS COMPARISONS WITH HIS SON ARE UNFAIR

Gheorghe Hagi has insisted that the comparisons made by football pundits and fans around the world between him and his son are unfair and should not even be a topic that is up for debate. He admitted that he has grown fed up with the comparisons and that people should stop mentioning it any further.

Hagi, a former player who enjoyed a great career including stints at Real Madrid and Barcelona got criticized heavily for declaring that his son Lanis will become as good as Zinedine Zidane one day.

MESSI SHOULD BE BARCELONA’S GREATEST

Lionel Messi, who has spent the whole of his professional career at Barcelona winning titles and playing fantastic football, should be the greatest player in the history of the club. However, according to Ranker’s the legendary status of the Argentine is placed third on the list.


Diego Maradona remains one of the greatest players to have kicked a football. There is no doubt or argument, but he spent only two years at the Catalan side. He started with Argentino Jrs. but it was at Boca Juniors that he made a name for himself. He moved to Europe where he played for Barca in 1982/83 and 1983/1984 seasons. Then he moved to Napoli to play in the Serie A where he was cemented a legend of the game. He also played for Sevilla before returning to play for Newell and Boca Juniors before retirement.

LIVERPOOL PREPARE PLAYER PLUS CASH DEAL FOR KOULIBALY

Liverpool are in talks with Napoli regarding a potential player plus cash deal for sort after defender Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegal international has been attracting interest from top clubs across Europe, but Napoli have remained firm in their stance that the player is not for sale. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea have all made attempts to sign the towering defender at one time or the other, but club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has proven to be tough in negotiations when it comes to Koulibaly.


The Senegal international is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and has caught the eye of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who is considering a partnership of Koulibaly and Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of the Reds defense.

Gheorge Hagi was Fortunate for Gerrad being His Son’s Manager

Gheorge Hagi, the legendary Romanian footballer, has now his son training under Steven Gerrad with the Rangers and Hagi has a lot of praise for Gerrad. According to Gheorge Hagi, his son Ianis Hagi has risen quickly amongst the rangers under Steven Gerrad’s guidance. The Romanian youth Ianis quickly became a huge fan favorite amongst the Rangers supporters, especially after his victory against the Hibernian F.C. and then with his double that confirmed a comeback not foreseen against Braga in the Europa League.

To witness the win against Braga at Ibrox, Ianis’ father was present and when he returned to Bucharest, he talked about why he believes that his son has hit the ground while running in Scotland.

ATALANTA’S BEEF WITH BRESCIA IS GETTING HOT AGAIN

Five people were arrested while twenty were hospitalized the day Florin Raducioiu and Gheorghe Hagi helped Brescia to a 2-0 win over Atalanta.

The match kicked off what was to going to be one of the fiercest rivalries in Italian football.

As both teams prepare to meet each other this coming days, the last time Italian football witnessed their clasico was 13 years ago. The only reason the Lombardy Derby is not as popular as they would have liked is done to the fact that AC and Inter Milan will always overshadow every other rivalry close to them.

READING FORWARD NETS FIRST INTERNATIONAL GOAL

Reading FC forward, George Puscas scored the first goal for Romania as they won 3-0 in a game against the Faroe Islands in the Euro 2020 Qualifier. The goal which was from close range in the 74th minute was a major relief for the player.

Puscas has been criticized by many sectors of the Romanian media for his performances for his club side. The forward has yet to score for Reading despite starting the season with a brace against Cardiff in August.
